The Homeshare Association Report 2023

Connecting with the Department of Health and Social Care

We were delighted in January 2023 to have the opportunity to share our homeshare knowledge and experiences with the Department of Social Care. We believe Homeshare has a vital role to play within Social Care and the Homeshare Association is committed to continue to engage with Local Authorities, MP’s and Government to ensure any barriers are removed to ensure Homeshare can be available to many more people.

Congratulations to Supportmatch Homeshare

We are delighted to announce that Supportmatch Homeshare have been recognised in the South West by Cornwall Council in December 2022

Cllr Andy Virr, Cornwall Council’s cabinet lead for adult social care and health said:

“Having a sense of purpose is something that people in their later years can struggle with but this service just ticks all the boxes.

“It’s not always the case that someone needs support from a care agency or needs to go into a care home. In many cases, people having that bit of extra support from someone living in their home can mean they are able to live independently for a lot longer.”

Welcoming the newly launched Homeshare Association

Today we are absolutely thrilled to announce the launch of the Homeshare Association, which aims to be the recognised voice of homeshare in the UK and strengthen collaborations between the homeshare market and the health and social care sector.

The Homeshare Association is the result of months of work, planning, and dedication from a trio of strong, well-established homeshare providers.  Share and Care Homeshare, Supportmatch Homeshare, and THE HomeShare joined forces to create this new organisation; a much-needed development and step forward for the market. The HomeShare Ireland was invited to discuss their work via a zoom webinar hosted by DCU (Dublin City University) to discuss Homesharing as part of their celebrations for Global Intergenerational Week 2022. The Homeshare Ireland showed a video they recorded last week featuring one of our current Homeshare matches in Dublin, Anna and David. it was a lovely piece showing the benefits of the homeshare model.

Amanda Clarke from Share and Care Homeshare was invited, in September 2021, to outline the benefits and challenges of homeshare to the UK Cabinet Minister for Social Care and several senior policy advisors. Subsequently she has contributed to the White Paper, People at the Heart of Care, led by the department of Health and Social Care; she continues to be involved in on-going policy sessions and is keen to ensure homeshare is recognised as a valuable way forward and as a solution to adult social care reform.
